Digital Culture & Data Analytics (DCDA)

Digital Culture and Data Analytics (DCDA) is an interdisciplinary set of programs designed for students with an interest in how digital technologies can be used to shape, analyze, and articulate contemporary culture. 

Historically, students in the liberal arts graduate with strong abilities in research, analysis, and verbal and written communication.  Both the DCDA major and minor will build on those skills by giving students experience with big data, data visualization, web-based writing, and the foundations of coding and visual design.

The DCDA program has offered a 21-hour minor since 2017. Starting in Fall 2023, it will also offer a 33-hour Bachelor of Science (BS) major.

Major Requirements:

Students majoring in Digital Culture and Data Analytics (DCDA) complete 33 hours of coursework: 5 required courses, 2 required program electives, and a choice of 4 additional courses from an approved list (see below). In choosing these courses, students take no more than 2 courses from any single discipline. A minimum of 9 hours at the upper-division is required.  With the exception of the Statistics requirement, no other course in the DCDA program may count for another major or minor.

Minor Requirements:

Students minoring in Digital Culture and Data Analytics (DCDA) complete 21 hours of coursework: 4 required and a choice of 3 additional courses from an approved list (see below). In choosing these courses, students take no more than 2 courses from any single discipline. A minimum of 9 hours at the upper-division is required.  Students who minor in Digital Culture and Data Analytics must choose whether DCDA-approved courses in their major discipline will count toward the major or the minor. No course may count for both.
